Ukraine Grants First Export Permits to Domestic Defense Firms
Ukraine has granted initial permits for domestic defense companies to export controlled military goods, the Kyiv Post has reported.
The decision was announced by Rustem Umerov, chair of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.
Umerov said the move allows Ukrainian weapons exports under a tightly regulated framework, with all approvals subject to state oversight, while the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces remain the top priority.
The companies that received the first export permits were not disclosed.
Under the initiative, the war-torn country is expected to attract foreign investment, boost production, and accelerate the adoption of new technologies for its troops.
According to Umerov, some domestic manufacturers are producing volumes that exceed current government procurement capacity.
This applies in several key areas, including unmanned aerial vehicles, electronic warfare, and reconnaissance systems.
Export Plans
The step marks a further move to internationalize Ukraine’s defense industry.
Earlier this month, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv aims to open up to 10 weapons export hubs across Europe by the end of the year, focusing on Baltic and Northern European countries.
The hubs are intended to manage exports of surplus military equipment, with revenues earmarked for the procurement of urgently needed weapons for Ukraine’s armed forces.
As part of the effort, Kyiv has already begun producing Ukrainian-designed drones abroad, with manufacturing underway in the UK and initial production launched in Germany, where the first units are expected later in February.
