Draganfly Secures Strategic Asia-Pacific Contract for Commander 3XL Drones
Canadian unmanned aerial systems company Draganfly has received a “strategically significant” contract to provide its flagship Commander 3XL drones for a military customer in the Asia Pacific.
The order, placed through a “recognized defense contractor,” covers a secure AES 256 encrypted communication link, a rugged ground control station, and adaptable payload options to support intelligence, surveillance, and logistical missions.
Specifics on the user and agreement terms were not disclosed due to regulatory and contractual restrictions.
The deal includes options for additional phases as the recipient continues evaluating the autonomous aircraft technology for deployment across its operational units.
“This contract in the Asia Pacific region is a strong endorsement of the Commander 3XL platform and Draganfly’s expanding role in global defense operations,” said Cameron Chell, CEO at Draganfly.
“Our team has worked closely with our partner to meet the nation’s defense department requirements, demonstrating that Draganfly can meet delivery, compliance, export, timeline, and volume expectations.”
This milestone follows an award secured by the company in July 2025 to deliver Commander 3XLs for a “major US Department of Defense branch.”
The Commander 3XL
Draganfly’s Commander 3XL is built for heavy-lift and rapid deployment operations, with a payload capacity of 10 kilograms (22 pounds).
The drone’s modular design lets it carry different tools, such as optical and thermal cameras, surveillance cameras, or mapping equipment.
It has rotors that can operate in light rain or snow, and foldable arms for easier transport.
The aircraft can reach speeds up to 38 knots (70 kilometers/44 miles per hour), fly at altitudes up to 2,438 meters (7,999 feet), stay in the air for about 50 minutes, and cover distances over 10 kilometers (6 miles), depending on antenna and accessory configurations.
