Hensoldt to Deliver Additional Air Defense Radars to Ukraine for $400M

Hensoldt has been contracted to supply additional air defense radars to Ukraine.

Under the 340-million-euro ($397 million) order, the German sensor solutions provider will deliver TRML-4D and SPEXER 2000 3D MkIII radars to the country.

The TRML-4D is a core component of the IRIS-T SLM surface-to-air missile system, many of which have been delivered to Ukraine by Germany.

The active electronically scanned array radar can detect, track, and classify approximately 1,500 targets within a 250-kilometer (155-mile) radius, including cruise missiles, drones, fixed-wing aircraft, and helicopters.

Short-Range Radar

Meanwhile, the SPEXER 2000 is a short-range surveillance radar capable of detecting and classifying ground, sea, and low-flying air targets.

It is installed on the new Skyranger 30 cannon-based mobile air defense system, as well as the Feldlager and HoWiSM (High-Energy Laser for Drone Defense) counter-drone systems.

“Our high-performance radars are urgently needed by Ukrainian air defence,” Hensoldt CEO Oliver Dörre said.

“A number of radars have been protecting Ukraine since the start of Russia’s war of aggression. We are proud to be supplying further systems. The radars are extremely important for protecting citizens.”
