Ukraine Forms First Motorcycle Assault Company

The Ukrainian military has established its first motorcycle assault company to boost mobility and enable rapid strikes in areas where traditional vehicles struggle to maneuver.

The new unit is part of the 425th Separate Assault Regiment “Skala,” which specializes in fast-penetration missions and deep raids behind enemy lines.

Photos shared online show each motorcycle carrying two fighters — a driver and a gunner — both armed with AKS-74U assault rifles for firing on the move.

The units operate in large swarms, allowing them to overwhelm enemy positions with speed and numbers while making it harder for opponents to target any single rider.

Once dismounted, the driver and gunner work as a pair, maneuvering on foot to engage enemy positions, provide cover, or conduct reconnaissance.

Adapting to Changing Battlefield

The formation of the motorcycle company reflects Ukraine’s push for more agile and adaptable tactics, especially in terrain where heavier vehicles struggle.

Russia was reportedly first to adopt this approach, deploying motorcycles and ATVs for fast-moving assault operations.

The tactic has evolved significantly over the course of the war, improving in scale and effectiveness.

Before officially fielding the unit, the Ukrainian Armed Forces conducted extensive training without fuel or ammunition limits.

“The fighters spent hundreds of hours behind the wheel during preparation and practiced shooting on the move, firing thousands of rounds,” the Skala regiment reported.

Beyond assault roles, the company is expected to support a range of frontline tasks, such as carrying electronic warfare gear, ammunition supplies, or stretchers for wounded troops.
